2007 Activity Fees

|
2007 Activity Fee payments are due by March 1st.
If your scout was not able to earn their $60 fee
through the Holiday Wreath Sale Fundraiser,
please remit their balance, by check,
to Geralyn Hoerauf by the due date.
Scouts who do not pay the Activity Fee by the
deadline will not be registered with the rest
of the troop at rechartering in March.

Court of Honor

The troop will hold its winter Court of Honor on
Wednesday, March 14th. All rank advancements and
merit badges must be completed by the end of the
regular troop meeting on March 1 st.
Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review must
be scheduled one week in advance.
All family members are invited to attend.
Each family is asked to provide “finger
foods” or desserts for the reception
following the ceremony.

Friends of Scouting

The Court of Honor will include a presentation on the
annual Friends of Scouting Campaign. This council
fundraising campaign produces 15% of the Connecticut
Rivers Council’s total revenue. The entire
membership fee paid during our rechartering in March,
goes to the Boy Scouts of America, not the local council.
The balance of our Activity Fees stays with the troop,
to support our own budgeted expenses. The Connecticut
Rivers Council, on the other hand, will spend an average
of $120 per scout to sustain their 2007 operations.
While no one is required to contribute to this campaign,
we hope that collectively our troop can achieve its FOS goal,
which is based on an average donation of $35.00 per family.
At the Court of Honor we will distribute pledge cards.
At that time families may make a pledge and request
billing later, or families may make a contribution by cash,
check or credit card. All donations are tax-deductible.
During the Friends of Scouting drive in 2007, our Troop met
the Council goal of $35 per family, and as a result we were
able to obtain all of our rank advancement badges during
2007 for free. Please consider contributing to this important
cause and help us meet our goal again this year.

Youth Protection Training

The troop will hold a YPT class on March 21st in the UCC Library
during the regular troop meeting time. It is Troop 60 policy that
all adults participating in overnight activities with the troop,
hold current BSA Youth Protection certification and must renew
it every three years. Although YPT is offered online, it is
Troop 60 policy that our members attend Youth Protection Training
in a classroom setting. The troop keeps a roster of all adults
and the date of their last YPT certification; adults new to the
troop should notify the YPT instructor of the date of their last
YPT certification training. Please contact Dom Narducci with any
questions regarding Youth Protection Training.
Once again, we are pleased to announce that Jim Fornabaio
will be assuming the position of Troop 60 Youth Protection Instructor
after this spring session.

Scout Leadership Positions

|
All scouts ranked First Class and above holding leadership positions
are now required to maintain a journal documenting their specific
leadership activities. These notebooks will be reviewed as a key
component for rank advancement to Star, Life and Eagle. Scouts
should contact Mr. English or Mr. Corbett with any questions.

Committee Meetings

|
Our next Troop Committee meeting will be held Monday,
February 26 in the Parlour at UCC. All parents are
invited to attend Committee meetings and contribute
to the discussion of troop policies, help set budgets
and plan troop activities. Future Committee Meetings
will be held the on the fourth Monday of the month at
7:30pm in the UCC Library (check the current troop
calendar for upcoming dates).
